Marshall Wattman-Turner has\nbeen helping churches make great strides toward better physical, mental,\nspiritual and emotional well-being as the Oregon-Idaho Conference\u2019s Abundant\nHealth Coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grant, which funded his part-time position for the past\ntwo years has expired, and Wattman-Turner will return to local church ministry\nin Milwaukie in July. It will be up to that team to discern how to\nmove forward with the Abundant Health work in a volunteer capacity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWorking with Marshall has taught me more patience and\ngrace,\u201d said Emilie Kroen, Abundant Health team coordinator. \u201cWe still have\ndreams of things we\u2019d like to accomplish.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kroen was especially pleased with the work Wattman-Turner\ndid on addressing mental and emotional health in his time. She hopes they can\nbuild on the momentum he\u2019s created and develop more of a resource center for\nlocal churches and connecting churches more to one another in their work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wattman-Turner has been busy the last few months working\ncollaboratively with the Greater Northwest Area disaster response team to put\ntogether resources on coping with the stress, anxiety and grief that comes with\nthe coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He helped Kroen and other lay leaders put together two\nworkshops, which people can still sign up for next week, to discuss the\nunderlying issues, and self-care, that must be tended to while also serving\nvulnerable people in churches and communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s highly relational and highly collaborative work,\u201d\nWattman-Turner said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to recent events, Wattman-Turner has helped to\ncreate a network of 60 churches in the Oregon-Idaho Conference committed to\nAbundant Health \u2013 meaning they are engaged in some sort of work in their\nchurches to address the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental health needs\nof people in their congregation and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Members of the Abundant Health team come from mostly rural\nchurches, and six of the seven members of the team are laity. The team has\ndeveloped training resources, and also works with local churches doing unique\nAbundant Health ministries to amplify their work in other communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think a lot has been accomplished,\u201d Wattman-Turner said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those who may have questions from the Abundant Health\nteam, volunteers can be reached at <a href=\"mailto:abundanthealth@umoi.org\">abundanthealth@umoi.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For the last two years, Rev.
