This UMCOR Sunday don\u2019t forget about the need to support volunteers in mission throughout the church, too, and the Greater Northwest Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When disaster strikes, disaster coordinators send out Early Response Teams in the near aftermath recovery stage. But when it comes to long-term recovery, United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) teams are incredibly helpful as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the Pacific Northwest Conference is accepting UMVIM teams to help with the Okanogan wildfire recovery and rebuild. Contact PNW UMVIM coordinator Cheryl Reagan<\/a> for information on how to send a team to support that work, keeping in mind COVID-19 protocols set forth by disaster response coordinators across the Greater Northwest Area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being an UMVIM team member isn’t just about helping when disaster strikes. For years, the Greater Northwest Area has sent UMVIM teams around the globe to help communities build hospitals, schools and so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For years, the Oregon-Idaho Conference has had a relationship with the Maua Methodist Hospital in Kenya and has sent a number of UMVIM teams over the years to help with building projects, education materials and much more. Due to the pandemic teams haven\u2019t been able to travel there in more than two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, people still interested in learning about the project can attend the Maua Methodist Hospital virtual mission trip on April 6 and April 8. from 8 to 9:30 a.m. PDT, 9 to 10:30 a.m. MST. Guest presenters from Maua Methodist Hospital will discuss new education outreach projects in surrounding communities. Register for the virtual mission trip here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
