In partnership with the Mountain Sky Conference, Lay Servant Ministries leaders from the Greater Northwest Area are inviting anyone interested to register for this new, five-week course, “Leading in Prayer” beginning Oct. 19. But hurry, the deadline to register is Oct. 12.

The class will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. PST and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. MST, every Tuesday, beginning Oct. 19 through Nov. 16. Registration for the class is free, except for the cost of purchasing the book “Shaping the Prayers of the People” by Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher.

Class description: This book offers a model of profound and accessible congregational prayer. At once inspirational and practical, it will empower and equip laypeople and clergy alike to offer heartfelt, informed, and appropriate prayers on behalf of the people of God. As Samuel Wells and Abigail Kocher say, “Interceding in public worship is a duty. This book is intended to make it a joy.”

Shaping the Prayers of the People begins by considering what public prayer is and offering practical guidelines for avoiding common pitfalls. It explores prayer as an integral part of worship and discusses the language we need (and don’t need) to address God. Significantly, the book also provides an array of example prayers along with commentary.

The book can be purchased on Amazon or via Cokesbury.

Register for the class by filling out this form from The Mountain Sky Conference and emailing it to Faye Veal at fayeveal@aol.com.
