Saying goodbye
The Scheer family at Ocean Park

On March 31, we said farewell to Brandon and Carole Scheer and family, our co-directors at Ocean Park Camp and Retreat Center (OPCRC) for the past eight years. Brandon and Carole have overseen much renovation and revitalization at Ocean Park during their time with us. Developing relationships with volunteers and community outreach has especially been a big success under their leadership. During the COVID crisis, Brandon and Carole successfully navigated the camp through and facilitated many significant camp upgrades as well.

Brandon and Carole have accepted new co-director positions at Flathead Lake United Methodist Camp in Montana. Carole grew up in this area, and they look forward to being closer to family as they fulfill their new duties. Brandon and Carole, we are grateful for your work. They will be missed!

Saying hello
Lu and John Harding

As we bid farewell to Brandon and Carol, we welcome Lu and John Harding! Lu will serve as our interim director at Ocean Park Camp and Retreat Center from April 1 through September 5. John will tend to the grounds and facilities and work with our many NOMAD groups. Lu, now retired, is an ordained United Methodist Deacon and served for many years as executive director of Mt. Eagle Retreat Center in Clinton, AR. Lu served as Camp and Retreat Ministries director in the North Arkansas Conference. In addition to interim camp work, Lu and John volunteer as NOMADS and with UMCOR and UMVIM.

We are blessed to have Lu and John at the helm at Ocean Park Camp this season as we search for a new permanent Director.

The search for a new director

Ocean Park Camp will soon begin a national search for a new camp director. Ocean Park Camp and Methodism has a long and rich history in the Ocean Park community on the Long Beach Peninsula. OPCRC operates as one of the four camp and retreat centers of the PNW Conference. More information about the camp can be found at: www.opretreat.org

Interviews for our new director will take place throughout the spring/summer of 2022. You can request more information by contacting Alan Rogstad, Executive Director of Camp and Retreat Ministries, PNW Conference, at arogstad@pnwumc.org.
