Churches across the Greater Northwest Area are invited attend virtual education event on food insecurity and hunger on June 27 being hosted by Abundant Health Ministries.

The featured speaker for this event will be Sharon Thornberry, Columbia Gorge Food Bank manager for the Oregon Food Bank. Thornberry will talk about returning to the shopping model for local food pantries and serving individuals with special needs (including dietary). Thornberry has worked for the Oregon Food Bank in various capacities for more than 20 years and has been a grassroots organizer, trainer and advocate for community food systems – particularly in rural areas – for nearly 40 years.

In addition to hearing from Thornberry during the 85 minute briefing, participants will receive updates on what churches across the Greater Northwest Area are doing to address food insecurity as well as what our UMC principles say about addressing hunger.

The presentation begins Monday, June 27 at 5 p.m. AK, 6 p.m. PT and 7 p.m. MT.
